Named after the Nishijin district of Kyoto, Nishijin-ori is a type of traditional Japanese textile historically used to make traditional Japanese clothing such as kimonos and obi sashes. Unfortunately, the Nishijin-ori textile industry has been struggling with the shift to western clothing, thus resulting in the loss of craftspeople and techniques developed over thousands of years.
To combat this, Kikyoya, a Kyoto-based maker, has been creating original modern-day products from authentic Nishijin-ori textile products.
